6 Ways To Improve Your Chances Of Getting Pregnant

Having difficulties getting pregnant can be a really tough thing to cope with for every couple. While there are many medical options for fertility treatments, the process can be unpleasant, confusing, stressful and somewhat daunting due to the medication and time schedule involved. Hence, couples are increasingly seeking alternative methods to help improve chances of conception before resorting to treatment. Below are a few simple ways to increase the chances of becoming pregnant and enhancing fertility rates, for both the male and female partner. Schedule An Appointment With Your OBGYN

One of the first things that can be done to improve the chances of getting pregnant is to schedule an appointment with your obstetrician/gynecologist. For example, having a regular menstrual cycle and having the proper vaccinations are all important steps a couple should make prior to getting pregnant. If your OBGYN also specialize in fertility (also referred to as “reproductive endocrinology”), he or she can also order diagnostic tests, such as blood hormone tests and semen analysis, to provide insight to the couple’s fertility status.

One of the more common factors that contribute to infertility is high levels of stress for both the male and the female partner. High levels of stress have been linked to interruptions in hormone balance and irregular menstrual cycles, which both play an essential part leading to conception. Studies have shown that acupuncture, yoga, and meditation all help with decreasing stress and increasing fertility rates. Hence, take a breather from your job – take a vacation somewhere with your significant other and relax, and you may return from your vacation with a nice surprise.

Take prenatal vitamins (both male and female)

The female prenatal vitamin still has all the vitamins and minerals as a multivitamin, but with more folic acid and other nutrients that can gear the body to get ready for conception. The male prenatal vitamin is the same idea, except that it is formulated to boost sperm vitality, quality, and count.

Stop Smoking

Studies have shown that inhaling the “cancer stick” decreases the chances of getting pregnant for the female, and negatively affect sperm count and quality in males. Since smoking cigarettes are basically inhaling toxins, carcinogens, and chemicals inside the body, free radicals can damage the quality of eggs and produce abnormally shaped sperm, so that fertilization of the egg becomes harder. Even if an egg was successfully fertilized, smoking can further reduce the chances of the egg implanting on the uterus walls to begin pregnancy. The earlier a person quits smoking, the better the chances of conception he or she will have.

Eat Nutritiously And Exercise Regularly

Having a nutritious diet can definitely make sure the body is in optimal shape and ready for the prospects of conception. Women who are too thin or overly athletic may have a more difficult time conceiving, because the body needs more adipose (fat) and nutrients to be able to carry a fetus. For thin women, it may be smart to consult a nutritionist for the best way, nutritiously, to prepare her body for conception. It is the same for the opposite; women who are overweight or obese can also have a harder time getting pregnant due to potential disruptions in the reproductive hormones. Hence, incorporating a daily exercise regimen (even if it’s only walking for 30 minutes daily) can pave the road to better health as well as increased chances of getting pregnant.

Lay Flat After Sex

This may seems like an old wives tale, but laying flat after sex for 30 minutes or so really does improve the chances of getting pregnant. As far as common sense goes, if a woman immediately stands up after sex, the sperm is literally going against gravity to try and travel up the vagina canal, to the uterus, then to the fallopian tubes to fertilize the egg. But while it does not help to do a hand stand, lying flat after sex definitely helps the sperm with an easier journey. Hence, next time, indulge in some post-coital cuddling to increase the chances of conception.

The road to getting pregnant should not be done alone, so be sure to involve your partner in the process. Hopefully, by employing these few simple tips into your life, your chances of conception will increase. However, it is most important to note that in the case of conception, patience is key – it may take longer for some couples than others to conceive.
