Dr. Briony Jain is a public health researcher and professional editor specializing in aging and health care. She earned her PhD in Public Health from Monash University in 2018 for her research on preventable deaths among nursing home residents in Australia. She then completed post-doctoral research on social care and policy at Middlesex University in London. Briony has authored over 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including several systematic reviews, highlighting her skills in reviewing and conducting evidence synthesis of medical literature. Briony was also an editor for Nature Aging, a new journal under the Nature Research Portfolio dedicated to multidisciplinary research on aging, aged care and older adults. Kelsey Andrade-Powell, MS

Kelsey Powell received her BS in biology from University of Houston-Clear Lake with magna cum laude distinction and her MS in medical sciences from Texas A&M Health Science Center Institute of Biosciences and Technology. Her graduate research focused on the molecular biology involved in the development and progression of cardiovascular disease and heart failure.  Prior to her graduate studies, she acquired over five years of experience in academic science as a lab manager. During her time in academia, she heavily contributed to manuscript and grant writing and editing and obtained shared authorship in many scientific journals. This combined passion for science and writing led her to her career as a scientific editor and writer.

Madeline Hubbard, RN, BSN

Madeline Hubbard holds a BA in neuroscience and behavior from Vassar College where her research focused on emotional resilience and coping. She translated this interest into direct clinical care and pursued her BS in nursing from University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, completing her nursing preceptorship on a postpartum/labor & delivery inpatient unit.    As a nurse, Madeline has specialized in behavioral healthcare. She is trained to provide hotline support to individuals experiencing interpersonal violence, and has worked in outpatient and residential settings offering treatment for depression and anxiety as well as disordered eating. She is currently licensed as a registered nurse in Oregon, and provides hospice care through the Oregon Nonprofit Hospice Alliance.

Mark Pernik

Mark is a final year medical student at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, where he will graduate with a medical doctorate with distinction in research in May 2022. Prior to medical school, Mark graduated from Austin College with a degree in neuroscience. During medical school he enjoyed the opportunity to care for all patients and gain a deep understanding of the human body and disease. He felt especially passionate about caring for patients with conditions affecting the brain and spine. This led him to pursue a career in neurosurgery, the field in which he is currently applying to residency.  Throughout medical school, Mark has performed extensive clinical research focusing on improving the precision, safety and outcomes for patients who undergo neurosurgery. This has resulted in over 30 peer-reviewed publications in journals such as The Lancet, Neurosurgery, The Journal of Neurosurgery, Cancers, Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, and the Global Spine Journal. Mark feels it is critical that patients are able to understand their health conditions and medical treatment. As such, he enjoys writing easy-to-understand medical articles so patients can take charge of their health.

Martina Tyrrell, PhD

Martina is an anthropologist and human geographer. Her research interests include environmental knowledge and skill and human-animal relations. She received a PhD in anthropology from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, in 2005. She was a British Academy postdoctoral fellow at the Scott Polar Research Institute at the University of Cambridge and held human geography lecturing positions at the University of Reading and the University of Exeter.     Since 2015, she has been a full-time writer and editor. Her essays and articles on parenting, the environment and sustainable lifestyles have been published in newspapers, magazines and online.

Samantha Miller, MBChB

Dr. Samantha Miller is a UK-qualified doctor. She received her Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Glasgow. She works part-time in the NHS in Scotland in the fields of obstetrics, gynecology and sexual health. She also has an additional degree in anatomy and a postgraduate diploma in sexual and reproductive health.    Her clinical time is varied and she looks after people throughout pregnancy, and with a range of gynecological presentations, working in both outpatient and inpatient settings. She also provides a comprehensive sexual health service to all genders, including the provision of contraception, detection and management of sexually transmitted infections, abortion care and advice regarding sexual problems. She also works closely with the police, as a qualified sexual offenses examiner, conducting forensic medical examinations and providing support to victims of sexual assault.    Samantha is passionate about teaching and medical education and works part-time as an editor and educator. She prides herself in providing original high-quality written and video medical education content for online consumption and regularly delivers lectures and workshops in-person and online.
