Baking Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar

A baking soda mixture offers one of the easiest ways to wash your hair naturally. Simply mix about a tablespoon of soda per cup of water and pour it over your hair, working it into your scalp and hair. This helps reduce oil and clean away any dirt. You can also get a little on your fingertips and rub it directly onto your scalp, working your way down your hair. Follow it up with an apple cider vinegar rinse. Dilute the apple cider with water in about equal parts. This helps keep your hair from smelling of vinegar after you are done showering. The apple cider vinegar helps restore your hair to a balanced pH.

Castile Soap

For people who need a little extra cleanser, castile soap can be a good answer. You can purchase pure castile soap online or at many beauty supply stores. Dilute it with water so your mixture is about half castile soap and half water. You can use it like that directly, but most people prefer to add a little bit of oil. Jojoba, olive or avocado oil can add shine to your hair. Use about half a teaspoon of oil per half cup of shampoo. You can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for scent.

Occasional Treats

You should not use egg yolks every day, but they can be a great occasional cleanser for oily hair. The yolks bind to the oils in your hair and carry them away when you rinse. Mix two yolks with a little lemon juice, and then apply it to your hair. Let it sit for a few minutes before washing it out.

Beer gives volume to your hair. Add a little to your shampoo bottle, or use it as a rinse. Simply shampoo and condition your hair like normal, and then pour some beer over your hair. Let it sit for a moment, and then rinse it out.

Coconut oil is another kitchen ingredient that can add shine to your hair. Apply it directly to your hair, but avoid the roots to prevent oily buildup. Let it sit for up to 10 minutes, and then wash your hair thoroughly. You can also add a tablespoon to your shampoo or conditioner for daily use.
